Easter, Passover & Sabbath

This writing is not intended to be a complete telling of this topic, but with a thought to brevity, it should allow for good learning.
Probably no topic or issue can stand alone without consideration for information from other topics and issues.  Therefore, for better understanding of terms and concepts used herein, other papers should be read in conjunction with this paper and others.  One in particular for early reading is What is in a Name

Let us count and measure the days

To begin, we must recognize what a "day" is.  The follow graphs help to define a day and the week around Yahshua's death and resurrection as used in the context of this paper.

The following graph(s) can be viewed better & printed (using your favorite imaging program -
"Photoed" - a part of MS Office, is good) and cut for arranging them to understand the text.

For the best viewing of these graphs, they can be downloaded by right-clicking here,
and in IE selecting "save target as" or in Netscape selecting "save link as".
This will get you an Excel worksheet.

Genesis 1 (and several others) gives us authority for understanding what a day is.

The following should be indisputable as it comes directly from Scripture in a factual fashion.

Introduction

On the 10th day of the 1st month the Israelites are to select their lamb offering and care for it in their homes (like a pet) for 4 days. (Exodus 12:3)

Passover is the 14th day (from evening to evening) of the 1st month of the Hebrew calendar (Exodus 12:6&18 and Leviticus 23:5).

On the evening of the 14th (the beginning of the day) the lamb was to be slaughtered and made ready to eat.

Although there is controversy regarding the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, this paper will hold that it is the 14th of the first month.  For more of this and a better explanation, please see the paper "passover-and-non-leavened-bread".

The 1st day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread is a day of Holy Convocation - a Sabbath, so is the 7th day.  This is an annual Sabbath, not a weekly Sabbath, although it could happend on the weekly Sabbath, or any other day of the week.

14th day of the month

The 1st day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread is a day of Holy Convocation - a Sabbath [Exodus 12:16 (en# 14), Numbers 28:18 (en# 15)], as is the 7th day (Exodus 12:16, Numbers 28:25).  This is an annual Sabbath, not a weekly Sabbath, although it could happen on the weekly Sabbath.

The day before an annual Sabbath is known as a (or the) preparation day.  The reason is simple.  Sabbath is supposed to be a day of resting from the normal daily chores.  The idea here is that the day before Sabbath you prepare what you will need on the Sabbath to avoid doing work on the Sabbath.  This is referring to things you NEED on Sabbath.  You need food, drink and such.  Therefore, you would cook the food and put it in the fridge or otherwise keep it to be eaten on Sabbath.

Matthew 27:62 (en# 1), Mark 15:42 (en# 2), Luke 23:54 (en# 3), John 19:31 (en# 4) tell us the day Yahshua died was the preparation day and the next day was the Sabbath.

Yahshua died on Passover, 1st day Unleavened Bread, which occurs on the 14th day of the 1st month.  The day before Passover and the 1st day of Unleavened Bread is known as the preparation day for the next day being Sabbath.

Yahshua dies mid-afternoon of the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread.  Remember, the day begins at Sundown.  Scripture says 9th hour [Matthew 27:46 (en# 5), Mark 15:34 (en# 6), Luke 23:44 (en# 7)], which places the time at about what we would call 3pm.

Joseph beseeched Pilate to let Yahshua’s family and friends have Yahshua’s body so it would not remain hanging on the Sabbath.  They got the body. [Matthew 27:57-62 (en# 16), Mark 15:42-47 (en# 17), John 19:38 (en# 18)]

Being the late hour of Yahshua’s death and the time it took to get Pilate to release the body, there was not time for anyone to do the work needed to acquire the herbs, oils and such to anoint Yahshua’s body before sundown.

14th day of the month

The Judahs (called Jews, 1/12th of Israel) rested and studied and mourned on this annual Sabbath. [Matthew 27:57-62, Mark 15:42-47, John 19:38, supra]

15th day of the month

On the day after the annual Sabbath, the High day, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Salome BOUGHT (work) things to anoint Yahshua’s body, then they went home to rest for the weekly Sabbath. [Mark 16:1 (en# 8), Luke 23:56 (en# 9)]  You should note here that if the women were buying then someone had to be selling.  Therefore, this day could not be a Sabbath.

16th day of the month

The Judahs (called Jews, 1/12th of Israel) rested and studied and probably still were mourning on this weekly Sabbath.  This weekly Sabbath is followed by “the first day of the week”.  On this particular week that day is also known as the beginning of the "Feast of Weeks", or the "First Day of Weeks".

17th day of the month

In the end of the sabbath, on the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to the sepulcher to anoint Yahshua’s body with the spices they prepared before the weekly Sabbath.  They discovered the sepulcher open and Yahshua’s body missing. [Matthew 28:1 (en# 10), Mark 16:1 (en# 11), Luke 24:1 (en# 12), John 20:1 (en# 13.1)]

When the women met Yahshua in daybreak, Yahshua was ALREADY RISEN, having risen some time prior to morning.  Hence, at the end of the 16th day, at dusk or maybe a little before, is the earliest Yahshua could have risen to fulfill the requirements of 3 days AND 3 nights [Matthew 12:39-40 (en#19)].  It seems that Yahshua probably existed the sepulcher at the end of the 16th day and did some undisclosed thing(s) till daybreak when he met the women near the cave.

Later in the morning, Mary went directly to tell the Disciples what she had seen and heard [John 20:18 (en# 13.2)].

The next evening, the beginning of the first day of the week, Yahshua visited the 11 Disciples in a locked room, by mysteriously appearing  [John 20:18].

Easter Sunday?????

DID YOU NOTICE?  There is NOTHING here to do with Sunday.  Look at the 3rd graph/chart.  Sunday, as we call it (a modern term, with nothing to do with Yahshua's days), starts in the middle of the night, AFTER everything is done.  What about "Good Friday"?

3 days AND 3 nights

Now if you put this information to the graphs included with this paper, the evidence shows that Yahshua died late Wednesday, just before evening (beginning) of Thursday and rose just at or before evening (beginning) of the Sunday (first day of the week).  This makes 3 days AND 3 nights.

This makes Thursday of that year first day of the Feast of Unleaven Bread.

Questions

Is it true that Yahshua died and arose on the third? (check Luke 9:22 & Matthew 20:19)

Is it true that Yahshua was in the ground 3 days and 3 nights?

If Yahshua died on “Good Friday” and arose on “Easter Sunday, then what are the 3 days and 3 nights?

Do not forget Matthew 12:39-40.

Are the Sabbath and the Lord’s day (day of worship) the same?

History

"Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.  Six days you shall labor, and do all your work; but the seventh day is a sabbath to the LORD your God; in it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, your manservant, or your maidservant, or your cattle, or the sojourner who is within your gates; for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day; therefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day and hallowed it.“ (Exodus 20:8-11)

The Christians did not observe Sunday as a day of rest [seemingly official] until the 4th century anno domini (A.D.), when Emperor Constantine designated Sunday as a holy day for the entire Roman Empire.  The early The Christians did not confuse Sunday with the Hebrew Sabbath, and they made no attempt to apply Sabbath legislation to Sunday.[fn1]

It was not until the 4th century that Sunday began to take on Sabbath characteristics, when Constantine decreed that certain type of work should not be done on Sunday.  This Sabbatarian tendency continued over the several centuries until the decretals of Gregory IX (A.D. 1234) officially mandated Sunday rest.[fn2]

So it is reasonable to believe and think that Saturday is the weekly Sabbath.  But Luke 24:1 tells us the women who anointed Jesus’ body after taking Sabbath came on the 1st day to discover his body gone.  Therefore they rested on the 7th day, not the first.  Our calendar has kept the days the same regardless by what name they were called and by which language they were interpreted.  If you drew a calendar back over 2,000 years ago and kept the days aligned, Sunday above Sunday, Wednesday above Wednesday, et cetera, and only differing by what name they were called, you find that what we call Sunday has always been the first day of the week.  Hence, what we call Saturday is the 7th (last) day of the week and is the Sabbath.

Even if the calendar were to have gotten skewed, you would still have to honor the 7th day of your week as Sabbath.  Look at your calendar, regardless of its history and find what the 7th day of the week is.

The Hebrews followed by the klan of the Jews (1/12 of the tribe of Israel) have a long standing reputation of observing the Law of God (at least the old testament) recognize the 7th day as what we call Saturday.  With that in mind and in conjunction with Mark 16:2 identifying the day after Yahshua’s rising as the first day of the week and in conjunction with the two previous references, then Sunday is the first day of the week.  Then regressing we find that Saturday, Friday and Thursday are the 3 days and 3 nights to count for his rising (remember, the Hebrew day begins with “night” followed by “day”), hence Yahshua died the day prior, which is Wednesday, in the mid-afternoon.

NOTE 1:  The Son of Man is Lord, is Jesus, is Yashua.  Consider Mark 2:28 and Matthew 12:8.  Therefore, the Son of Man is Lord also of the Sabbath.  The grace of our Yahshua (Israel). (Revelation 22:21)

NOTE 2:  … They asked saying, is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath days?   He said, What man shall there be among you, that should have one sheep, and if it falls into a pit on the Sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out?  How much then is a man better than a sheep?  Wherefore, it is lawful to do GOOD on the Sabbath days. (Matthew 12:10-12)

NOTE 3:  Whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of Man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come. (Matthew 12:30-32)  It might be argued that to celebrate “Easter” and not celebrate the day God told you to celebrate is a blasphemy against the spirit.

System of reckoning time usually based on a recurrent natural cycle, such as the cycle of the sun through the seasons (see Year) or the moon through its phases (see Month). Because the solar year is 365 days 5 hr 48 min 46 sec and the lunar year (12 synodic months of 29.53 days) is 354 days 8 hr 48 min, people have been confronted from ancient times with the problem of the discrepancy. Because the year is not exactly divisible by months and days, the practice arose of making arbitrary divisions and inserting extra (intercalary) days or months. The Gregorian calendar, generally accepted today, evolved from the Roman calendar reformed (46 B.C.) by Julius Caesar. In the Julian calendar April, June, September, and November had 30 days, February 28 days (29 days every fourth, or leap, year), and all other months 31 days. The date was computed by counting backward from the Kalends (the 1st day), the Nones (the 7th day in March, May, July, and October; the 5th day in other months), and the Ides (the 15th day in March, May, July, and October; the 13th day in other months); hence Jan. 10 was the 4th day of the Ides of January. Because the Julian year of 365 days 6 hr was too long, by the 16th cent. the vernal equinox was displaced from March 21 to March 11. Pope Gregory Xiii ordained that 10 days be dropped in 1582 and that years ending in hundreds be leap years only if divisible by 400. The non-Roman Catholic countries were slow to accept the Gregorian (New Style) calendar; it was adopted in England in 1752 and by the Eastern Church in the 20 cent. The Christian ecclesiastical calendar was based on the belief that Jesus' resurrection was on a Sunday, hence Easter should fall on Sunday. The First Council of Nicaea (325) decreed that Easter be the Sunday following the first full moon after the vernal Equinox; today the date varies from the astronomical reckoning because certain factors of the lunar period are not considered. Other calendars include the Jewish calendar (12 months, plus intercalary months 7 times in 19 years) and the Muslim lunar calendar. See also French Revolutionary Calendar.

Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.
5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.
6 And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.
7 And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.
8 And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.
13 And the evening and the morning were the third day.
19 And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.
23 And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.
31 And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

Matthew 27:57 When the even was come, there came a rich man of Arimathaea, named Joseph, who also himself was Jesus' disciple:
58 He went to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered.
59 And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,
60 And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, and departed.
61 And there was Mary Magdalene, and the other Mary, sitting over against the sepulchre.
62 Now the next day, that followed the day of the preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees came together unto Pilate,
63 Saying, Sir, we remember that that deceiver said, while he was yet alive, After three days I will rise again.
64 Command therefore that the sepulchre be made sure until the third day, lest his disciples come by night, and steal him away, and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead: so the last error shall be worse than the first.
65 Pilate said unto them, Ye have a watch: go your way, make it as sure as ye can.
66 So they went, and made the sepulchre sure, sealing the stone, and setting a watch.

Mark 15:40 There were also women looking on afar off: among whom was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the less and of Joses, and Salome;
41 (Who also, when he was in Galilee, followed him, and ministered unto him;) and many other women which came up with him unto Jerusalem.
42 And now when the even was come, because it was the preparation, that is, the day before the sabbath,
43 Joseph of Arimathaea, an honourable counsellor, which also waited for the kingdom of God, came, and went in boldly unto Pilate, and craved the body of Jesus.

Luke 23:52 This man went unto Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus.
53 And he took it down, and wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a sepulchre that was hewn in stone, wherein never man before was laid.
54 And that day was the preparation, and the sabbath drew on.
55 And the women also, which came with him from Galilee, followed after, and beheld the sepulchre, and how his body was laid.
56 And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment.

John 19:30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.
31 The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.
32 Then came the soldiers, and brake the legs of the first, and of the other which was crucified with him.
33 But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs:
34 But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.
35 And he that saw it bare record, and his record is true: and he knoweth that he saith true, that ye might believe.
36 For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken.
37 And again another scripture saith, They shall look on him whom they pierced.
38 And after this Joseph of Arimathaea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus: and Pilate gave him leave. He came therefore, and took the body of Jesus.
39 And there came also Nicodemus, which at the first came to Jesus by night, and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about an hundred pound weight.
40 Then took they the body of Jesus, and wound it in linen clothes with the spices, as the manner of the Jews is to bury.
41 Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden; and in the garden a new sepulchre, wherein was never man yet laid.
42 There laid they Jesus therefore because of the Jews' preparation day; for the sepulchre was nigh at hand.

Matthew 27:45 Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour.
46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?
47 Some of them that stood there, when they heard that, said, This man calleth for Elias.
48 And straightway one of them ran, and took a spunge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink.
49 The rest said, Let be, let us see whether Elias will come to save him.
50 Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.

Mark 15:33 And when the sixth hour was come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour.
34 And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?
35 And some of them that stood by, when they heard it, said, Behold, he calleth Elias.
36 And one ran and filled a spunge full of vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink, saying, Let alone; let us see whether Elias will come to take him down.
37 And Jesus cried with a loud voice, and gave up the ghost.

Matthew 28:1 In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.
2 And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it.
3 His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow:
4 And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men.
5 And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified.
6 He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.
7 And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you.
8 And they departed quickly from the sepulchre with fear and great joy; and did run to bring his disciples word.
9 And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped

Mark 16:1 And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him.
2 And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun.
3 And they said among themselves, Who shall roll us away the stone from the door of the sepulchre?
4 And when they looked, they saw that the stone was rolled away: for it was very great.
5 And entering into the sepulchre, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a long white garment; and they were affrighted.
6 And he saith unto them, Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold the place where they laid him.
7 But go your way, tell his disciples and Peter that he goeth before you into Galilee: there shall ye see him, as he said unto you.
8 And they went out quickly, and fled from the sepulchre; for they trembled and were amazed: neither said they any thing to any man; for they were afraid.
9 Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils.
10 And she went and told them that had been with him, as they mourned and wept.
11 And they, when they had heard that he was alive, and had been seen of her, believed not.
12 After that he appeared in another form unto two of them, as they walked, and went into the country.
13 And they went and told it unto the residue: neither believed they them.
14 Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen.
15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

Luke 24:1 Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.
2 And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre.
3 And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus.
4 And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments:
5 And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead?
6 He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee,
7 Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.
8 And they remembered his words,
9 And returned from the sepulchre, and told all these things unto the eleven, and to all the rest.
10 It was Mary Magdalene, and Joanna, and Mary the mother of James, and other women that were with them, which told these things unto the apostles.
11 And their words seemed to them as idle tales, and they believed them not.
12 Then arose Peter, and ran unto the sepulchre; and stooping down, he beheld the linen clothes laid by themselves, and departed, wondering in himself at that which was come to pass.

John 20:1 The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre.
2 Then she runneth, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and saith unto them, They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him.
3 Peter therefore went forth, and that other disciple, and came to the sepulchre.
4 So they ran both together: and the other disciple did outrun Peter, and came first to the sepulchre.
5 And he stooping down, and looking in, saw the linen clothes lying; yet went he not in.
6 Then cometh Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulchre, and seeth the linen clothes lie,
7 And the napkin, that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself.
8 Then went in also that other disciple, which came first to the sepulchre, and he saw, and believed.
9 For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead.
10 Then the disciples went away again unto their own home.
11 But Mary stood without at the sepulchre weeping: and as she wept, she stooped down, and looked into the sepulchre,
12 And seeth two angels in white sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain.
13 And they say unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? She saith unto them, Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him.
14 And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus.
15 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away.
16 Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master.
17 Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.
18 Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that he had spoken these things unto her.
19 Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.
20 And when he had so said, he shewed unto them his hands and his side. Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the Lord.
21 Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.
22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:

Exodus 12:1 And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying,
2 This month shall be unto you the beginning of months: it shall be the first month of the year to you.
3 Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for an house:
4 And if the household be too little for the lamb, let him and his neighbour next unto his house take it according to the number of the souls; every man according to his eating shall make your count for the lamb.
5 Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats:
6 And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening.
7 And they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses, wherein they shall eat it.
8 And they shall eat the flesh in that night, roast with fire, and unleavened bread; and with bitter herbs they shall eat it.
9 Eat not of it raw, nor sodden at all with water, but roast with fire; his head with his legs, and with the purtenance thereof.
10 And ye shall let nothing of it remain until the morning; and that which remaineth of it until the morning ye shall burn with fire.
11 And thus shall ye eat it; with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in haste: it is the LORD'S passover.
12 For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD.
13 And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.
14 And this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and ye shall keep it a feast to the LORD throughout your generations; ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance for ever.
15 Seven days shall ye eat unleavened bread; even the first day ye shall put away leaven out of your houses: for whosoever eateth leavened bread from the first day until the seventh day, that soul shall be cut off from Israel.
16 And in the first day there shall be an holy convocation, and in the seventh day there shall be an holy convocation to you; no manner of work shall be done in them, save that which every man must eat, that only may be done of you.
17 And ye shall observe the feast of unleavened bread; for in this selfsame day have I brought your armies out of the land of Egypt: therefore shall ye observe this day in your generations by an ordinance for ever.
18 In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month at even, ye shall eat unleavened bread, until the one and twentieth day of the month at even.
19 Seven days shall there be no leaven found in your houses: for whosoever eateth that which is leavened, even that soul shall be cut off from the congregation of Israel, whether he be a stranger, or born in the land.
20 Ye shall eat nothing leavened; in all your habitations shall ye eat unleavened bread.
21 Then Moses called for all the elders of Israel, and said unto them, Draw out and take you a lamb according to your families, and kill the passover.
22 And ye shall take a bunch of hyssop, and dip it in the blood that is in the bason, and strike the lintel and the two side posts with the blood that is in the bason; and none of you shall go out at the door of his house until the morning.
23 For the LORD will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when he seeth the blood upon the lintel, and on the two side posts, the LORD will pass over the door, and will not suffer the destroyer to come in unto your houses to smite you.
24 And ye shall observe this thing for an ordinance to thee and to thy sons for ever.
25 And it shall come to pass, when ye be come to the land which the LORD will give you, according as he hath promised, that ye shall keep this service.
26 And it shall come to pass, when your children shall say unto you, What mean ye by this service?
27 That ye shall say, It is the sacrifice of the LORD'S passover, who passed over the houses of the children of Israel in Egypt, when he smote the Egyptians, and delivered our houses. And the people bowed the head and worshipped.
28 And the children of Israel went away, and did as the LORD had commanded Moses and Aaron, so did they.

Number 28:16 And in the fourteenth day of the first month is the passover of the LORD.
17 And in the fifteenth day of this month is the feast: seven days shall unleavened bread be eaten.
18 In the first day shall be an holy convocation; ye shall do no manner of servile work therein:
19 But ye shall offer a sacrifice made by fire for a burnt offering unto the LORD; two young bullocks, and one ram, and seven lambs of the first year: they shall be unto you
without blemish:
 20 And their meat offering shall be of flour mingled with oil: three tenth deals shall ye offer for a bullock, and two tenth deals for a ram;
21 A several tenth deal shalt thou offer for every lamb, throughout the seven lambs:
22 And one goat for a sin offering, to make an atonement for you.
23 Ye shall offer these beside the burnt offering in the morning, which is for a continual burnt offering.
24 After this manner ye shall offer daily, throughout the seven days, the meat of the sacrifice made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD: it shall be offered beside the
continual burnt offering, and his drink offering.
25 And on the seventh day ye shall have an holy convocation; ye shall do no servile work.
26 Also in the day of the firstfruits, when ye bring a new meat offering unto the LORD, after your weeks be out, ye shall have an holy convocation; ye shall do no servile
work:

Mark 15:42 And now when the even was come, because it was the preparation, that is, the day before the sabbath,
43 Joseph of Arimathaea, an honourable counsellor, which also waited for the kingdom of God, came, and went in boldly unto Pilate, and craved the body of Jesus.
44 And Pilate marvelled if he were already dead: and calling unto him the centurion, he asked him whether he had been any while dead.
45 And when he knew it of the centurion, he gave the body to Joseph.
46 And he bought fine linen, and took him down, and wrapped him in the linen, and laid him in a sepulchre which was hewn out of a rock, and rolled a stone unto the door of the sepulchre.
47 And Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses beheld where he was laid.

John 19:38 And after this Joseph of Arimathaea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus: and Pilate gave
him leave.

Matthew 12:39 But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas:
40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
